Change Health Care (CHC) Impact

You may be aware of a cyber attack earlier this year that affected many medical-related practices in the US and Canada. CTMAX was not directly impacted NOR our systems compromised by the cyber attack. Likewise, our practice management system (Hernry Schein One) ALSO was not directly affected, but utilized claims or eligibility services through Change Health Care (CHC). CHC was direct target of the attack.

Based on CHC’s analysis to date, a small percentage of Henry Schein One (HSO) customer’s patient data was affected (at this time, less than 1%), but because CHC is not able to tie affected individuals to practices we are providing this notice to all Henry Schein One practice management customers (ie CTMAX) that utilized claims or eligibility services through CHC.

CHC has provided a HIPAA substitute notice with additional information here: HERNRYSCHEINONE. The notice includes a description of information which may have been involved based on CHC’s review to date, a toll-free call center number, and information on complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services available to all individuals. CHC recommends that covered entities post a link to the substitute notice on their home page for at least 90 consecutive days.

Beginning in late July, CHC has informed HSO that CHC will send direct notice (written letters) to affected individuals for whom CHC has a sufficient address. CHC will make HIPAA and state attorney general notifications as required by state law on behalf of covered entities as a delegate. You do not need to do anything for CHC to process required notifications. CHC will proceed as a delegate on your behalf to provide the following notifications:

  • HIPAA substitute notice
  • HIPAA media notice
  • OCR report, when data review is completed
  • Individual notifications under HIPAA and state law, for impacted individuals with sufficient information
  • Impacted individuals with an unknown or insufficient address will be provided notice via substitute notice
  • Notice to state attorneys general as appropriate

If you would like additional information regarding the cyberattack or the complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services, please refer to the CHC substitute notice at the link above. If you have any questions, please contact CHC directly as set forth in the notice.

Introducing TeleMax

Welcome to TeleMax, the CTMAX TeleMed / TeleHealth service.

We, at CTMAX, continue to innovate by launching our online consultation service for patients planning to schedule future surgery with one of our doctors. While many pre-surgical consultations require an extensive examination and work-up prior to embarking on treatment, some do not.

Many consultation visits often serve most to allow the doctor and patient to meet each other, review your medical history, discuss the indications for an up-and-coming treatment, assess collected imaging (x-rays) together, review the expectations from surgery and the anticipated convalescence as well as gain confidence in the office facility and staff that will be involved in your care.

COVID 19 UPDATE: Back to a (New) Normal

A Note About the COVID-19 Virus and Continuing Elective Services

We are still maintaining a cautious approach and following the recommendations by the CDC, the Connecticut Department of Public Health, and all local authorities regarding the ongoing COVID-19 issues as they relate to protecting our patient’s experience in all of our offices. We believe that it is important for you to know what we are doing to ensure your safety as well as educate you as to what you should expect at your next appointment.

If you are feeling unwell on the day of your appointment or have close family contact with those with respiratory illnesses, please contact our office and we can advise you about your visit and if necessary reschedule your appointment to another date and time. While masking is optional, our patients are expected to wear a mask while in the office if they have symptoms (e.g., cough) of respiratory infection or been in close contact with someone with RSV and SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Covid-19 UPDATE: Services Resume

A Special Note About the COVID-19 Virus and the Resumption of Elective Services

At this time, we are pleased to announce that CTMAX will begin to resume normal services starting on May 20th. At the same time, all of our patients should rest assured that we continue to listen carefully to the recommendations put forward by the CDC, the Connecticut Department of Public Health, and all local authorities regarding the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

For the past several weeks, we have successfully run an emergency oral surgery clinic to service those patients with only emergencies. Our clinic was limited to a single office location and targeted patients who might otherwise be forced to seek emergent oral surgical needs through the hospital emergency rooms. We would like to recognize and thank Dr. Brett Weyman and our dedicated staff that made this possible through the very peak of Connecticut’s Phase I COVID-19 curve. By using specific protocols that aligned with the CDC’s recommendations for safety, CTMAX successfully ensured the health and wellbeing of all patients needing treatment during this period while preserving the safety of our own team.

Our experience over this period has been invaluable and is assisting us as we plan for reopening our offices to elective services. We have always employed the highest level of patient protection and sanitization methods to preserve a surgically aseptic environment. Similarly, our doctors and staff are accustomed to operating in a hypersensitive environment. In years past we have confronted and practiced in the face of infamous epidemics, including, Hep A, B & C, HIV/AIDS, SARS, H1N1, Ebola (EBV) and others. Therefore, we understand how to mitigate the risks of treatment for both the patient and the doctor. We will use the additional experience of what we have learned recently as well as over decades of practice to keep you and your family safe.

We believe that it is important for you to know what we are doing to ensure your safety as well as educate you as to what you should expect at your next appointment. We have, therefore, dedicated a section of our website to assist you in being prepared with the hope that we will allay many of your fears. In many ways, we are now practicing in a new age of healthcare.

Covid-19 UPDATE

A Special Note About the COVID-19 Virus

CTMAX has been listening carefully to the recommendations put forward by the CDC, the Connecticut Department of Public Health and all local authorities regarding the COVID-19 outbreak. Therefore, we have now elected to currently limit appointments to only those experiencing an urgent need. All elective procedures and consultations will be appointed or reappointed beginning at the end of day on Wednesday, March 18th to a time beginning or following April 6th.

In addition, we will be limiting patient visits to our Simsbury Office location until the current recommended lockdown has passed. Our Simsbury location is isolated from other offices and is easily maintained at the highest level for decontamination and recommended CDC guidelines under the current virus outbreak. While we realize this might present a burden to those coming from a more distant location, we believe this will assist in ensuring the safety of the patient, doctors and our staff. During this period our hours will also change and be limited to appointments between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Appointments will be scheduled an hour a part to avoid overlap from one individual to another and limit waiting room times.

We would like to say that this message is our last regarding this situation and that we will resume normal operations on April 6th, however, we are aware that we will have to react to the facts on the ground and recommendations provided to us by our government health agencies. We wish everyone safety and good health in these difficult times. We believe that our people, communities and country will successfully prevail against this invisible enemy that we face.

Coronavirus / Covid 19

Do You Know Who Your Oral Surgeon Is?

It would not be the first time that a down economy has produced tradesmen and specialists out of thin air that profess to have an expertise in just about everything from building homes to laying new tile in your bathroom. In hard times, everyone is looking to putting food on the table and jobs are often scarce for what was previously an individual’s selected profession. Unfortunately, the dental profession is no different. As discretionary funds are redistributed by patients to other more critical life-sustaining items, the professional in both dentistry and medicine may begin looking to taking on treatments that he or she may otherwise not have considered doing or at the very least would have sent to a specialist. In its worst form this practice can result in a fraudulent misrepresentation of the professional’s education, ability and even licensure as it relates to what they are providing for the patient.
