Barry R. McGuire, D.M.D.


Barry is the only member of the group that is from Connecticut. Barry was born on June 5, 1952, and grew up in the New London area of Connecticut. His father was a dentist thereby making Barry a natural to eventually follow in the profession. In High School, Barry was awarded the designation of Connecticut State Scholar. Additionally, he achieved regional recognition as an accomplished competitor in sailboat racing.

Barry left the New London area to receive his undergraduate training at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, graduating in 1974 with a B.S. degree. Following graduation he headed south to the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. It was here that he received specialized training at the University Medical Center culminating with a degree in Allied Health.

In 1978 Barry accepted a position as a Physician Assistant in Cardiothoracic Surgery with a Medical Staff appointment a Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia. Having gained invaluable experience from this position he moved back to Connecticut in 1982 at which time he attended dental school at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Upon graduation, in 1986, Barry received the Lewis Fox Award, in acknowledgment of the highest overall achievement in dental school.

After receiving the D.M.D. degree in 1986, Barry entered his training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Connecticut Affiliated Residency. He completed his surgical training in 1990 where he received his certificate. From this point forward Barry has worked in the private medical and dental community of Northern Connecticut in a practice limited to the practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

He is currently a partner in Connecticut Maxillofacial Surgeons, L.L.C., and is a member of the Attending Staff of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. In addition, he is on the Courtesy Staff of both Hartford Hospital and New Britain General Hospital.

On the academic side, Barry enjoys a teaching appointment at the University of Connecticut Health Center in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, as well as having teaching responsibilities with the Fellowship Program at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and recently served as the Chairman of the 28th Annual Symposium of the Connecticut society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Barry is an avid tennis player and lives in West Hartford with his wife Phyllis and his two children Ryan and Sean.
